 Good News!

Jacksonville and Orlando are among the 10 best cities for bargain house  hunters, according to Forbes magazine.  The editors define a bargain market as  one where employment growth will burn off an over-abundance of inventory  quickly. At #8 on the list, Jacksonville's foreclosure rate is lower than most other  major Florida cities, which will help reduce inventory levels.

Regina About Town

One of my favorite places in 32217 is Sweet Repeats Consignment Shop.  I do not love shopping at the mall one bit.  Sweet Repeats is so close to home in Lakewood, with ample parking and friendly faces.  I find a wonderful array of stylish, high end clothing at a fraction of the cost.  I buy everything from jeans to a wedding appropriate cocktail dress for every season of the year.  I have even found  cool jewelry, designer handbags, and shoes there. The owner is super friendly an always keeps her eyes open for new things that come in that I might like.

The Local: Miramar/San Marco-I kept running by, anxiously awaiting for this to open up, as we need more dining options close to home...........and we can walk here! Finally, we went for dinner on Friday night, and I can tell The Local is going to be one of our favorites. Casual, yet fresh, interesting menu options at various price points.......order at the counter. I had a delicious, huge salad with arugula and tons of fresh veggies, and Bill had a sandwich. We visited with the owners, a few local millenials, and talked about their vision for this new spot. We will definitely be back soon and often.

Mexican food:  I love Mexican Food! Our weeknight standard is La Nopalera in San Marco. The new building is a very cool, renovated train station. The chips/salsa are the best, and the entrees are a great value. I especially love the Tacos Al Pastore and Fajitas. The new Burrito Gallery in Brooklyn Station is a great restaurant, I love the upstairs open air section with views and occasional breezes. I always get the chicken enchiladas.

My favorite restaurant for a nice evening out is BBs. The food has always good ever since they opened, and for a nice meal it is a good value. I love their salmon salad with pesto and cous-cous, but will often get the fish entree of the day.  I never miss the calamari, or one of their over-sized chocolate desserts. YUM

The Athens Cafe off of St. Augustine and Dupont is a hidden gem. I love Greek food, and it is reasonably priced, fresh and quiet. Just down the street from there is Sorrento's.....the best Italian food in town.  It can be crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but their food is always fresh  and flavorful, just like in your own home.

Coaching Marathon High

Runners

We are so excited for Marathon High Season 7!! This season we are offering a brand new race series for our students as they move through the season and new distance milestones. Our program is free and open to any high school student who will commit to attend three weekly practices, give these practices their best effort, complete three training runs of 15K or longer, and complete a fundraising project with their school's team. They will  also be required to attend the New Year's Eve 5K, Winter Beach Run, Gate River Run and finish the season with the Run 13.1 on March 25, 2018.

Our next important event is our Virtual 1/2 Marathon, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year. For just $25 you can run, walk or crawl 13.1 miles during the week of .take a photo with your virtual bib, and get an awesome medal designed by one of our alumni runners........plus the good feeling that you have done something healthy for yourself that is going to make a difference in the lives of some incredible teenagers!

I have been a proud sponsor of marathon high for the past three years, and a coach at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts for the past two years. Running has truly been a gift in my life, and I will always be so grateful that I gave it a try way back in 2001 as I lined up at the Gate River Run just a few days past my 30th birthday. Running has meant different things to me at different times in my life, but one thing is for sure........running has always been there for me, and has helped shape the person I am today.

I feel that mentoring and training high school students as they give running a try is an important mission in my life.  I cannot wait to see how Season 7 unfolds, and all the amazing memories we create for our teens!
